Are Head Wraps Professional?

Let’s be real…it’s the 21st century, this shouldn’t be a question today.

But, because it is, we’ll let you in on a little secret…

You can absolutely wear a head wrap to work, and you should.

While head wraps serve a religious and cultural purpose for many women (and men… we see you!) they're also a beautiful accessory that can completely tie your outfit together, make you feel confident inside and out, or hide the fact that you’re having a bad hair day.

That’s a win-win, right? Why wouldn’t you wear a head wrap to work?

That being said, if you’re new to the world of head wraps or have been too nervous to wear one to work yet, don’t worry. We’re here to give you some fashion inspo and insider tips on how to style a head wrap with professional work attire. Together, we’ll shut down the haters who have the nerve to say that head wraps are “unprofessional” in the 21st century.

However, just like with any item of clothing, which head wrap you wear to work is entirely context-dependent.

For example:

Can you wear a dress to work? Of course!

Can you wear a skin-tight mini-dress to work? Not unless you’re the hostess of a popular club.

The same goes for head wraps.

That classic solid-color wrap that brings out your eyes perfectly and goes with every single outfit is probably going to be a safe bet for work.

Do you have a head wrap that says “kitty” in large font and gold glitter? Best save that one for going out on the weekends or days off when you’re just feeling a little extra fabulous. 🙈

1. Match your wrap with your shoes, bag, or nails.

Chances are you already have a good idea of what is appropriate in the shoes, bag and nails department. Every job is different and so is office culture.

If you typically wear modest, neutral-colored shoes to work and keep your nails natural-looking. Do the same with your head wrap! Choose neutral or muted tones that you already know are appropriate, like Chic in the Nude.

If you have a job that not only allows for creative self-expression, but encourages it…. Style our radiant Indah head wrap with your neon-colored Louboutins, throw on your favorite lippie and own your look. You go girl!

Working at your local Starbucks? No problem. While you may not be able to wear nail polish or cute shoes to work, you can absolutely wear a head wrap… and, trust us, it’s going to be your best friend. You can save precious time each morning and keep your hair away from your face by throwing it into a beautiful head wrap. Choose a wrap that matches your uniform, like Estan, to pull it all together and feel your best.

2. Style your outfit around your wrap.

Just like you can wear a statement necklace, purse or lip shade and keep the rest of your outfit neutral and low-key, you can choose a stunning, detailed, brightly colored statement wrap, like Tully or Cantik, and plan the rest of your outfit around it.

While a full-on rainbow-colored outfit might not be acceptable to wear to the office, a little pop of color in an otherwise professional outfit is totally acceptable!

Wear a statement wrap on those days when you just need a pop of fun and color to brighten up your mood and help you get through the rest of the work week!

3. Still not sure? Play it safe!

There are SO many ways you can style a head wrap. If you’re still not sure about wearing one to work, try a simple headband style first to ease yourself into it. Move to a turban style and keep the colors you choose neutral, muted, and not attention-drawing. You should always feel 100% comfortable and confident wearing a head wrap, so go with whatever makes you feel your best! Our Chic in the Nude, Elok, Estan, and Jolasun wraps are perfect for those who like to keep things a little stylish, and low-key.
